Tetragonal Nanosized Zirconia: Hydrothermal Synthesis and Its Performance as a Promising Ceramic Reinforcement

In this study, we produced zirconia nanoparticles with a pure tetragonal phase, good dispersion, and an average particle size of approximately 7.3 nm using the modified hydrothermal method. Zirconium oxychloride (ZrOCl2-8H2O) was used as zirconium source, while propanetriol additive. The influence content, sonication time, temperature, type dispersant on physical phase dispersibility investigated. Monoclinic found to completely transform into structure when mass fraction glycerol increased 5 wt%. With increase in mechanical stirring time under ultrasonic conditions, distribution range prepared particles became narrower then wider, first smaller larger. Ultrasonic for min had best effect. When comparing effects different dispersants (PEG8000, PVP, CTAB), it that 0.5 wt% PVP smallest. Furthermore, by adding concentrations nanozirconia 3Y-ZrO2 reinforcement additives, bending strength ceramics decreased increasing addition amounts. amount 1 ceramic calcined at 1600 °C, flexural significantly, which about 1.6 times unadded ceramic. results are expected provide reference high-purity ceramics.
